I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about the fact that she can’t do that without breaking the rules. However, my sister just wants to eat a bag of Lays potato chips for snack.

Teaching a class of sugared up kids sounds nightmarish, so I can get behind disallowing candy. I also now see why a teacher would not want outside candy in their class. I have no way of knowing if the way the teacher was guiding the children to better follow her rule created an atmosphere of shame, or a gentle atmosphere of growth and learning. Firstly, I now realize that I have no idea of how accurately my little sister is relaying what happened. Those things said, the way I’m looking at this situation has definitely changed. It’s not really relevant, but I would be lying if I said people assuming that I’m a girl for caring about my sister didn’t annoy me. The rule was announced to parents via email before school started again. My sister’s teacher is the only one doing this. Healthy food/no candy policies are not a school-wide thing. So, is it appropriate for my little sister’s teacher to be telling her class that they need to bring in healthy food, or am I right to feel weirded out by the rule?Įdit: I have been reading and considering every comment, I seriously cannot thank all of you enough for taking the time to respond to this post. The way I see it, what a kid eats should be in the hands of the parent(s). Upon some kids in the class bringing candy, the teacher told them that they “need to do a little better” next time.Įven though this class rule doesn’t directly affect me, I want my little sister (and the other kids in her class) to have a good school year. Chips and candy are some of the things she is telling them not to bring, and she has suggested that children bring yogurt or something else healthy. Apparently, her teacher has been telling her class that they need to bring in healthy snacks for snack. My little sister (4th grade) just started school again.
